Clifford Chance is a clear winner this year. In addition to providing time, legal expertise, services and mentoring skills from over 70% of their staff, Clifford Chance has taken a leading role in reaching out to those less fortunate. Last year, they opened their facilities to over 250 community organisations. These initiatives are led from the top by Senior Partner Stuart Popham � and volunteering and community involvement is now an integral part of the appraisal process for everyone. This bedrock of support and concern ensures that good corporate citizenship is fast becoming a sustainable pillar of the firm � and setting standards of personal involvement higher than their competitors.
RUNNER UP
Weil, Gotshal & Manges is a worthy runner up. Their lawyers are involved in innovative pro bono work and have developed strong relationships with a wide range of charities � both large and small � going as far as secondment of staff to Oxfam. Staff are encouraged to participate in public service and given time off to do so and the broad cross section of projects indicates people really care about reaching out to the community. The firm�s strong focus on measurement of voluntary, pro bono activities is another sign of long term commitment and strong internal leadership on corporate responsibility issues.
