Shoosmith's submission reflects the energy, enthusiasm and commitment to Corporate Citizenship that is clearly embedded throughout the Firm. Their comprehensive approach includes a strong management
commitment, an innovative plan to measure community work and support for a mix of employee-led initiatives. Projects range from pro bono and volunteer services to an eclectic mix of non-legal initiatives that frequently involve clients. Environmental initiatives are similarly comprehensive ranging from getting to grips with energy usage and carbon footprinting, eschewing use of bottled water and practical initiatives to reduce car use.
2ND PLACE
With a proven track record in Corporate Responsibility, Eversheds clearly demonstrates committment and performance. Continuing a tradition of strong community investment, the company delivered over 2% of pre tax profit to local initiatives and has an established Charitable Trust Fund. Through its environmental policy and three year strategy, the firm is undertaking initiatives to reduce waste, energy use and carbon - and extend environmental performance requirements to its suppliers. We especially liked the environmental intranet which provides information to all employees.
3RD PLACE
Freshfields continues to show international leadership on corporate citizenship issues. One commendable initiative focuses on equipping homeless people with skills and confidence through a work placement and hiring programme. Pro bono work is broad based and fundraising supports home building worldwide. On environmental issues, Freshfields exhibits a knowledge, understanding and concern of the key issues with plans to: recycle more, reduce energy consumption and become carbon neutral worldwide.

In addition to emphasising pro bono activities, the firm is expanding and implementing a comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility policy.
