The judges awarded BDO first place in recognition of successfully executing the merger with PKF and in particular the firm’s use of financial information for business decision making. BDO’s finance function also focused on communication using a range of channels, including introducing a bi-annual e-zine ‘Behind the Numbers’. The introduction of a new management committee with oversight across the business including joining up finance, marketing, HR and other functions demonstrates a commercial approach, which is evidenced by impressive growth in profitability.
Winner's quote: "We are extremely proud to have won the 2015 MPF award for “Best Financial Management”. This success was only achieved with the contribution of everyone in the finance team. We are particularly pleased that their efforts over a period of substantial growth and change have been recognised at such a high profile event." Yvonne Barratt, Head of Finance, BDO

The judges awarded Bird & Bird joint second place in recognition that their submission reflected the importance of client relationships, service and satisfaction. The firm’s financial strategy is focused on profitability and they have developed a new Matter Planning and Profitability solution enabling flexible pricing arrangements and offering improved financial transparency and reporting, as well as the ability to deliver improved budget certainty to clients.
The judges awarded DLA joint second place in recognition that their submission reflected a well-run global finance function, which given their geographic footprint is a significant achievement. Their role in the wider firm’s business was notably more strategic and commercial than other entries, with finance leading from the front in driving the business rather than simply recording and reporting what has already happened.
