Leadership Groups

Enhance your personal contribution to your firm ... sign up for an MPF Leadership Group

The pilot programme in London has confirmed that our members consider one of the most important benefits of MPF membership to be the opportunity to participate at no extra cost in MPF Leadership Groups due to the high value of the confidential insights, experiences and strategies to embrace/avoid when leading a professional firm in this challenging economic climate.

Leadership Groups involve six to eight business leaders who face similar issues meeting locally every few months for between one and two hours. Members take it in turns to host. Groups are moderated by a local MPF Committee member or prominent local leader. They set their own agenda, meeting schedules and plans to achieve their goals. No minutes are taken. Typical topics include:

  • Dealing with economic turbulence, analysing the challenges at each stage: post-credit crunch; recession; recovery
  • What might happen in the next 6-9 months, a year?
  • What will we do if things change (the upswing) or don't change (plan B?)

As an example, in one such meeting, among the key things that came through was the desire to understand what colleagues are doing either by way of confirming attendees own actions or by providing good ideas to adapt and take forward. The group did not want a lot of formality around their discussions but thought that some time looking at a particular theme introduced by one or more of the group might be a helpful addition to a more general discussion. They agreed that it should be focussed on opportunities and 'how to' rather than bemoaning where they are and that there was a good vein of debate around catalysing change and the people/culture dimension of their firms. They also spent time around how a focus on clients and markets can be helpful in engaging fellow partners, as most professional folk are by nature very client centric.

We have already had a fantastic response to extending the programme across the country. There are just three criteria: MPF membership; a willingness to share openly; and a pledge to make best efforts to attend.

If you are willing to make this level of commitment, please contact Paul Lemon.
