What makes MPF different?

How do you help your members?
Leaders and management teams want their people to delight clients by consistently delivering the values of a well-managed firm. This involves researching future trends and management's prowess in the eyes of clients and employees, and then setting an agenda, a coherent strategy, a vision and values to be seen as a well-managed firm. As management's trusty companion, our role is to provide our members with relevant member services, thought leadership, and targeted representation.

What are your capabilities?
Our capabilities include: gatekeepers to decision takers worldwide; a track record of creating sustainable membership communities; powerful people and topic selection skills; effective lobbying to government and other audiences; and constantly scanning the horizon for insights, tools and frameworks that could be of value to our members.

How do you ensure that Forum members take advantage of your services?
Account managers are being appointed for professional firms worldwide to ensure that members are aware and take full advantage of local and online services from both MPF and PM Forum. Members can also complete the preferences form to take full advantage of all services:
https://response.questback.com/pmi/preferences

Which aspects of leadership and management do your services cover?
We organise services for:

  • Leaders: MP/CEOs, Practice Group Leaders, NEDs and Chairs, and CEOs of ABS and listed firms
  • Specialists in: Communications, Finance, HR, Knowledge & learning, Marketing, Operations (COO), Risk, and Technology (CIO)
  • Those based in: London, South West, Midlands, North West, Yorkshire, Scotland and Ireland with cities in Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific and the Americas under review.

Each group has its own chair, director, committee, public collaboration hub and member-only events.

What are your main member services?
Our member services reflect the three distinct roles that leaders and teams have to balance on a daily basis:

  • As board members, we help our members to identify strategic advantage and areas for improvement through formal reports on the impact of future trends and on a firm's perceived management prowess based on confidential surveys of its clients and employees.
  • As leaders of the firm, we help our members to understand how good a job they are doing, and which levers to pull, through leader-only events, public hubs, performance dashboards, 'ask-an-expert' services, and moderated peer groups.
  • As the head or a member of the management team, we help our members and others on the team to collaborate and become more effective through tailored seminars, moderated peer groups, public and private hubs, 'ask-an-expert' services, systems for tracking personal goals, and curated insights from a wealth of articles and blogs.

How are your dues structured?
MPF has two levels of membership - 'Network' and 'Insight'. Network members enjoy free events, working parties and our knowledge portal, and private hubs for their management teams; Insight members also enjoy free peer groups, on demand advice, and curated insights.

What type of events do you organise and who can attend them?
Our events alternate between collaborative sessions for all members of the management team and leader/specialist only sessions. Substitutes are not permitted. We allow guests to attend one meeting for free. There is a charge for attending our International Management Excellence Summit & Awards.

What are your working parties?
Anyone at a professional firm whose role involves leadership or management expertise can apply to join a moderated working party. Participants are expected to generate best practice for the MPF knowledge base.

How do you select topics and speakers?
Committees suggest a long list of topics. Members are surveyed. Options are debated and a programme agreed. The initial set of 100 working parties was based on committee long lists. New topics are always welcome.

How do we enter the MPF Awards for Management Excellence?
The MPF Awards for Management Excellence are an integral part of the MPF International Management Excellence Summit in association with Harvard Business Review and the Financial Times. Categories cover leadership, operational excellence, clients, people and collaboration. Any firm can enter for an Award at a cost of £195 per submission. Entries are due in early January 2014, with the ceremony in March in London.

How does the knowledge portal work?
Our global collaboration hub allows you and your peers to navigate and exploit an unrivalled collective brain, addressing strategy, leadership, collaboration, people and client issues. Contribute your insights; create, share and work on documents; network with peers; access local events and an expanding knowledge base of management excellence – including articles, reports, white papers, member lists, event reports and slides.

How does your private hub and goal tracking service work?
A confidential private online hub from HighQ enables all the members of your management team to work more effectively through: contributing insights; creating, sharing and working on documents; networking; accessing committee minutes and dates; allocating tasks; and building a knowledge base of relevant content. Combining a hub with goal tracking software from Objective Manager allows everyone to have clear goals that are implemented transparently. This member-only service would normally cost £20k pa.

What are your peer groups?
Peer groups involve the same six to eight members ('The Dream Board') meeting regul arly with an experienced moderator to discuss strategic or execution challenges on a confidential basis with no agenda or minutes. Groups are either MP/CEO-only or cross disciplinary across the management team.

What sort of advice do you provide?
All members can put ad-hoc queries or requests for introductions to MPF HQ at any time. Insight members benefit from ‘Ask-an-expert’ services which give access to wisdom from friends and supporters in academia, politics, business, philanthropy and consultancy. The more interesting the issue, the more likely to attract a leading guru! You can also take advantage of: the MPF Resources Guide; our book abstract and video of the month service; and a free subscription to Alchemy, a comprehensive resource of management tools, tips, methods, and practical information, written by over 100 of the most knowledgeable consultants in the UK.

What are curated insights?
Distilled content from a wealth of articles and blogs, hard wired to the needs of the individual team member, using specialist curation software from Attensa. Filter out background noise and tune in to what matters most. Identify opportunities, capture insights more efficiently, and increase awareness of trends.

Can you help us measure our relative management prowess?
Our unique Management Prowess Diagnostic, conducted by specialists Meridian West, generates a formal report to the Board based on confidential responses from employees and clients. At least 80% of the employees and 30% of the clients invited to share their views must respond.

How do you represent the professions?
We work closely with the UK Government's Professional and Business Services Council (PBSC) to ensure that sector trends and issues of importance to members are raised with government. These trends are collected, validated and summarised through our unique CEO Priorities Monitor. We also share the findings of surveys such as the annual FT/MPF Study into effective client-adviser relationships.

How independent are you?
PMI Foundation, an independent body of trustees, has a formal veto over material changes to our ownership. The interests of members are channeled through our Advisory Panel, comprising committee chairs and members-at-large, chaired by Mike Strong, Executive Chair EMEA of property advisers CBRE.

How do you respect the confidentiality of data provided by your members and partners?
Secure software from Questback, QlikView and HighQ is employed for our hubs, surveys and dashboards. Data uploaded by partners is stored on a secure cloud with support from Rosslyn Analytics.

How can I join a committee?
Over 70 members serve on committees. Approach the chair or director and let them know of your interest. However, be aware that it may take time before there is a vacancy.
