An impressive 60% of staff have so far volunteered to help young people overcome socio-economic and educational disadvantage, empowering them to reach their full potential. Solas’s school-based programmes of learning, mentoring, personal and social development work to raise young people’s self-worth, character and motivation to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities. ‘Think Tanks’ support future success and excellent results are driving increased staff uptake. Senior leadership involvement, good governance with compliance measures, effective internal awareness campaign, solid grounding in community needs and measurable impact make this project a winner.

To meet the growing need for access to justice, Dentons’ Poplaw clinics offer free legal advice weekly to disadvantaged communities on debt, housing, consumer issues, employment and welfare benefits. The programme provides team- and skill-building at Dentons, and practical training for law students. 30% of Denton’s London-based fee-earners are currently on the Poplaw rotas, with participation required for trainees. Since 2006, over 18,000 hours of free legal advice has saved the local community approximately £8million. The quantifiable scale and impact of Poplaw, providing a practical response to real need, and Dentons’ long-term commitment at all levels is impressive indeed.
